A gift in your Will – leave your legacy

Leaving a gift in your Will – no matter how big or small – will help Ourschool inspire young people and strengthen equality of opportunity in school education.

Your legacy will change the lives of young people and improve our public schools.

By leaving a gift in your Will to Ourschool your values will live on through Ourschool’s work.

Your gift is a profound memorial to your commitment to strengthening the only school system in our nation that’s freely available to all children, regardless of their background.

How to leave a gift in your Will

A gift in your Will (also known as a bequest or a legacy) is a gift of money and/or assets that you leave through your Will or by amending your existing Will.

We understand you’ll want to look after your loved ones first. All we ask is that after remembering your family and friends, you consider leaving a gift in your will to Ourschool.

Step 1. Get the help of a solicitor

Ourschool suggests that you speak with a solicitor to make or update your Will. By having a valid Will, you can ensure that what you own goes directly to the people and causes you care about.

Step 2. Decide what kind of gift to leave

There are three main ways to leave a gift in your Will. They are:

Residuary: You can make a gift of the residue (or remainder), or a percentage of the residue,
of your estate once you have provided for your family and other loved ones.
Percentage: You can specify what percentage of your estate you’d like to leave as a gift.
Specific (pecuniary): You can specify an amount of money, real estate, stocks and shares etc.

Step 3. Wording for your Will

To include your chosen gift to Ourschool in your Will, we suggest you provide your solicitor with the following wording to include in your Will:

“I give, free of all duties and taxes, *____ to Ourschool Ltd (ABN 47 633 875 288) for Ourschool Ltd’s general purposes.

I declare that an authorised receipt from a director, secretary or other officer of Ourschool Ltd shall be a sufficient release for the executors of the estate without seeing to the final distribution of the funds.”

*insert one of the following options you consider to be appropriate:

  • the [insert number] per cent of the residue of my estate
  • the [insert number] per cent of my estate
  • the sum of $ [insert number]
  • (Details of a particular asset — such as shares or property)
  • the whole of my estate
